The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently released its first crash test results under the more stringent 2012 model year crash test guidelines, & the 2012 Toyota Camry was one of only three cars to receive a five-star overall safety rating.

The more stringent guidelines use a wide range of dummies to better simulate occupants of all sizes and new side pole test simulates a car sliding sideways at 20 mph into a post or tree, uncovering potential weaknesses that the conventional barrier test cannot. Since side impacts are more likely to cause injury and fatality than frontal crashes, the new side pole test is an extremely important safety test.

The 2012 Toyota Camry received a four-star Frontal Crash rating, a five-star Side Crash rating and a four-star rollover rating for an overall vehicle score of five stars.
