To complete the Toyota Prius family of cars, our favorite Japanese automaker recently announced the company's first compact hybrid, the Toyota Prius C. The vehicle is highly anticipated by everyone here at Jon Lancaster Toyota, and we've been eyeing the vehicle's progress closely. That said, we'd like to turn your attention to an exciting development in the world of the Toyota Prius C: It's Japanese release.

That's right, the Prius C has already landed at dealership lots in Japan, but it's done so under a different name. There, the vehicle is known as the Toyota Aqua. Aside from its name change, though, we assure you that this is the same Prius C that we can expect to arrive on our lot at 3501 Lancaster Dr Madison, WI 53718 in the near future.

In case you're not already familiar with the compact hybrid's features and benefits, the Toyota Prius C is packed with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and 60-horsepower electric motor under the hood. This combination draws power from both a nickel-metal hydride battery and gasoline, much like many other hybrids on the road today. What differs the Prius C from other members of the Prius family is that it features a much shorter wheel base, which results in less weight for that powertrain to move.

This, of course, means more miles traveled on even less gas than before. In fact, Toyota is even claiming that the Prius C will boast an incredible 54 miles per gallon, which marks an eight-percent increase over the standard Toyota Prius.

So, will you be choosing a compact hybrid when the Prius C launches? Or do you prefer the spaciousness of the original? Maybe you need the bigger space of the Toyota Prius v?
